Very often, when searching on a website a visitor does not know exactly how a required word is spelled. As a result the system fails to find the required word and a visitor is unable to proceed with further actions.
This module resolves this issue by using 2 systems - either Soundex that uses Metaphone or Full text that uses MySQL.
Metaphone is a phonetic algorithm, published by Lawrence Philips in 1990, for indexing words by their English pronunciation. It fundamentally improves on the Soundex algorithm by using information about variations and inconsistencies in English spelling and pronunciation to produce a more accurate encoding, which does a better job of matching words and names which sound similar. As with Soundex, similar-sounding words should share the same keys. Metaphone is available as a built-in operator in a number of systems.
Full-Text Search in MySQL server lets users run full-text queries against character-based data in MySQL tables. You must create a full-text index on the table before you run full-text queries on a table. The full-text index can include one or more character-based columns in the table.
If Soundex and Full text are compared, Full text can be considered as the better one, but at the same time it requires much more resources so can cause the system to slow down while saving products.
Moreover, this module allows to use product attributes in search, such as: Name, SKU, ASIN, Description, Manufacturer, EAN, UPC, Categories, Attributes and Properties as well as their order can also be set up. Depending on this order (priority) the search will provide the corresponding results.
This module is used in the backend only.
